Collection: Sustainable Shaving Soap

Every WhollyKaw shaving soap is built to shave clean and waste less. A dense puck lasts months of daily shaves and replaces the single-use foam and gel cans a wet shaver would otherwise throw away. Because it is a true saponified soap, it biodegrades and rinses clean — no microplastics, no synthetic foaming detergents, no aerosol propellants. Every soap here is palm-free, cruelty-free, and made in small batches in the USA.

We are honest about the trade-offs, too: our jars are recyclable plastic, not glass, so we do not call our soaps “plastic-free.” Every product is scored 0–100 on our transparent Shave Footprint rating — packaging, ingredient sourcing, biodegradability, animal welfare, longevity, and how much disposable foam it displaces — so you can see exactly where each soap is strong and where it is not.

Tallow or vegan — both score the same. Our tallow soaps lead on circular, upcycled-byproduct sourcing; our vegan soaps lead on being fully plant-based and cruelty-free. Both are biodegradable, palm-free, and made in the USA. Pick the path that matches your values — the footprint is the same.

Sustainable shaving soap — FAQ

Is shaving soap more sustainable than shaving foam or gel?
In one clear, documentable way, yes. A dense puck lasts months and comes in a single recyclable jar, while canned foam or gel is single-use pressurized packaging a regular shaver replaces several times a year — so one puck displaces a stack of aerosol cans. It also biodegrades and rinses clean, with no propellants or synthetic foaming detergents.

Is WhollyKaw shaving soap biodegradable?
Yes. It is a true saponified soap, so it biodegrades and rinses clean with no microplastics or synthetic detergents. The only plastic is the recyclable jar the puck comes in.

Which is more sustainable — tallow or vegan shaving soap?
They tie. On our Shave Footprint rating both score 90/100 by different routes: tallow leads on circular, upcycled-byproduct sourcing; vegan leads on being fully plant-based and cruelty-free. Both are palm-free, biodegradable, and made in the USA.

How do you measure how sustainable a shaving soap is?
We score every soap 0–100 on our transparent Shave Footprint framework across six criteria: how much disposable foam it displaces, biodegradability, ingredient sourcing, packaging, animal welfare, and where it is made. It is self-assessed and published in full — not a third-party certification.
