Collection: Shaving Soap - Tallow & Vegan, Made in USA

Small-batch artisan shaving soap, made in the USA since 2014. Our tallow soaps are built on whole donkey milk for a slick, protective lather that stays workable through several passes. Prefer to skip animal ingredients? The vegan base swaps in shea, kokum, mango and cocoa butters for comparable cushion. Either way you get a dense, traditional lather, not canned foam.

Which base is right for you?

All of our tallow soaps start from whole donkey milk. The bases differ in what goes on top of it.

  • Siero (tallow-based): tallow, donkey milk, water buffalo milk and whey. The densest, most cushioning lather we make, and the base under most of our scented soaps.
  • Tallow (plain): classic tallow and donkey milk, clean and simple. Also offered as a vegan variant at the same price.
  • Vegan (butter-based): shea, kokum, mango and cocoa butters in place of tallow. Comparable cushion, and the right pick if you avoid animal-derived ingredients.

Where to start

  • Sensitive skin, or you want unscented: Bare Siero.
  • One soap to do everything: Eroe, our best all-rounder.
  • Classic barbershop scent: 1776, a traditional fougère.
  • Bold and oriental: King of Oud.
  • Tobacco lovers: Dulci Tobacco.
  • Your first artisan soap: Bare Naked on the plain Tallow base.

Frequently asked questions

What is shaving soap, and how is it different from shaving cream?
Shaving soap is a puck you load with a wet brush to build lather in a bowl or on your face. It gives more control and cushion than canned foam, and one puck lasts far longer. Creams are softer and faster to load, while soaps give a denser lather. WhollyKaw makes both.
Is tallow good in a shaving soap?
Tallow is prized in traditional wet shaving for glide and cushion. Its fatty-acid profile is close to the oils skin makes on its own, which is why many shavers describe a tallow lather as slick going on and comfortable afterward. If you avoid animal ingredients, our vegan butter base is built to match that cushion.
Should I choose a tallow or a vegan base?
Choose tallow (Siero or plain Tallow) for the most cushioning lather in the traditional style. Choose vegan if you avoid animal ingredients; it uses shea, kokum, mango and cocoa butters for comparable slickness.
What is the best shaving soap for sensitive skin?
Start unscented. Fragrance is the most common irritant in any soap, so our Bare line (Bare Siero and Bare Naked) leaves it out while keeping the full lather. Load a little extra water for a wetter, slicker cushion.
How long does one puck last?
Used with a brush, a single puck typically lasts several months of daily shaving. You only need a small amount to load the brush, so a little goes a long way.
