Centella Asiatica - otherwise known centella, asiatic pennywort or Gotu kola, is a herbaceous, frost-tender perennial plant in the flowering plant family Apiaceae. The terpenoids, asiatic acid, madecassic acid, asiaticoside and madecassoside which make up around 8% of the weight of the plant are found to be beneficial for the skin. The ingredient has potent antioxidant properties and to be a rich source of amino acids, and there's additional research showing that it's a great hydrating ingredient to soothe upset or compromised skin.
